The 3 Biggest Marketing Lessons I Learned This Month (And How They Apply to eCommerce)

Marketing isn’t a “set and forget” thing, especially not in the world of women-led, Shopify-based businesses. It’s an ever-evolving beast. And honestly? That’s why I love it.

Every single month, I see patterns in what’s working (and what’s not), in my own business, in client campaigns, and in the behind-the-scenes data most people ignore.

Here are 3 lessons I learned this month that I know will help you market smarter not harder in your own ecommerce business.

1. Consistency > Perfection

Spoiler: Your content doesn’t need to be aesthetic, polished, or “perfect” to work. But it does need to be consistent.

This month proved (again) that showing up regularly, even when it’s scrappy — creates trust and traction far faster than obsessing over one perfect post you never publish.

How This Applies to eCommerce:

  • Socials: Regular posts > viral one-offs. Use stories, reels, and static posts to stay visible and useful.

  • Email marketing: Don’t ghost your list. Even a short weekly email with product highlights or behind-the-scenes content builds connection.

  • Product launches: Start talking about it before it’s ready. Teasers > radio silence.

🧠 Pro tip: Use batching and scheduling tools to free up brain space. Imperfect content that’s out there will always outperform the masterpiece you never posted.

2. Data Tells the Truth

Guessing what your customers want? That’s cute… until it’s costing you money.

This month I had multiple client wins (and a few pivots) come directly from looking at the numbers. Ads that looked “fine” were actually tanking. Email flows that felt boring were quietly printing money.

Data doesn’t lie and it’s often telling a very different story than what you think is happening.

How This Applies to eCommerce:

  • Ads: Check CTR, CPC, ROAS — not just likes. If people aren’t clicking, the creative or audience needs a tweak.

  • Website: Watch bounce rates, time on page, and conversion rate. If traffic isn’t converting, your messaging might be off.

  • Email: Test subject lines. Re-send to unopens. Monitor revenue per recipient it’s more important than open rates.

🧠 Pro tip: If you’re overwhelmed by data, focus on one funnel at a time. Start with your product page, it's the money-maker.

3. Connection Converts

You can throw all the Meta ads and Klaviyo flows in the world at your business… but if people don’t feel connected to your brand, they won’t buy (or stick around).

What’s working right now? Human, honest, slightly messy content that builds trust.

Not just “Look at my new product!” — but why it matters and who it’s for.

How This Applies to eCommerce:

  • Storytelling: Talk about your why. Your process. The behind-the-scenes moments that make your products mean something.

  • Engagement: Reply to comments. Slide into DMs. Be a person, not just a brand.

  • Community: Build something people want to be part of. That might look like UGC, VIP lists, early access drops, or even just making people feel seen in your emails.

🧠 Pro tip: Even if you’re introverted or time-poor, you can still create connection repurpose testimonials, share a founder story, or start a recurring “real talk” segment in your content.

Final Thoughts: Smart Strategy Beats Hustle

Whether you’re still chasing your first $10K month or feeling bottlenecked at $30K l these lessons hold true:

✨ Be consistent

✨ Let the data guide you

✨ Prioritise connection over constant selling

Marketing doesn’t have to feel like guesswork, but it will if you’re flying blind.
